Religious Leader for Rec Letter?

Hey guys, I was curious as to whether I should ask my religious leader (imam) for a rec letter. A lot of my essay and my extracurricular volunteer hours occurred at the mosque, and I talk to him on a daily basis. I feel that he would write me a strong rec letter, and the mosque is a big part of my life. So, should I?

And would 3 rec letters, not including my counselors, be considered too much?

Generally, the most schools ask for no rec letters. Then you should adhere to those wishes.

A handful ask for is two teacher recs plus one counselor note. In that circumstance, one supplemental (your imam for instance) would be OK.

However, if a school only wants one rec letter – then you should definitely send one teacher rec – and that’s it (in my opinion).

It should not replace a recommendation from a teacher but it is fine to send in one supplemental recommendation.
