Remember how good it felt to be done?

My sophomore son just called and he finished his last term paper today and his last exam was yesterday. In spite of a very stressful end of semester, he’s happy with how things turned out (and hopefully his grades will reflect that).

But it made me remember – Oh my gosh, remember what a relief it was when the semester was over??? All that stress, poof! Gone. :)

Yup. We are getting daily calls from our sophomore. Last night the call started with “Help, my brain won’t work.” By now I guess it is close to over for the year. The last paper is done, the last project turned into. Only a couple of finals and juries are left.

My D is looking forward to the end of the semester in three weeks. And studying terrain maps for the assault on senior year, mulling 18 vs. 20 units for Fall semester, GRE prep, grad school apps, fellowship apps. Etc.

I’m going to suggest she slid GRE prep into the summer and maybe even just take it in August before heading back to school.

Yep. I remember it well. Don’t remember the hours afterward very well though!

Good suggestion thedad. Alleviate thepressure a little!

TheDad - If your D is ready for them, I think it is a great idea to get GRE prep and testing out of the way during the summer.

My D is pretty burnt out…heavy science course load this semester plus prepping for the MCAT. She looks forward to being done with the college part and feels like it will be a vacation to just have MCAT prep to worry about until taking it in June. I have a feeling that she will be hit by the emotional component of graduating after the fact. She has been way to busy to savor her last semester - which is a shame but she knew this year would be a crunch when she chose to go abroad for much of her junior year.

This is a little scary. It seems like TheDad’s daughter was just starting Smith … actually, just applying to schools. Do the four years really go that fast? And then all the prepping and applying all over again? Yuck!

My D has been more stressed than I’ve ever remembered her these past few weeks. I spoke to her yesterday and she seems a little better. She starts exams on Monday, and she says she can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope that’s a good sign!

Twin, yep, it goes that fast. Hotel reservations for 2008 graduation have already appeared on my AmEx statement…five colleges in the area, reserve early.

In many ways, it’s easier this time around. She’s constantly refined her sense of what direction she’s headed but there have been no radical turns and, while she now will solicit opinions about options, she’s more or less her own project manager. She’s come up with two main options at the moment:

A) MS Econ at Grad School A, two gap years working, then Law School.

B) If not Option A, then two gap years working followed by apps to a combined Econ/Law program at schools B-K.

Works for me.
