Remote login tools? (Cross Loop replacement)

A few years ago I set my up my dad (2000 miles away) on a laptop. I had some help and suggestions from CC pal - <a href=“Easy email for Grandpa? - #43 by Colorado_mom - Parent Cafe - College Confidential Forums”>Easy email for Grandpa? - #43 by Colorado_mom - Parent Cafe - College Confidential Forums;

My son installed a handy Cross Loop application. This allowed me to do remote login ( “drive” his laptop from my hope computer.) We only used it now and then, but it really came in handy for tough problems, other than network connection issues.

It appears that Cross Loop went obsolete in January 2014. Suggestions for other tools? It has to be easy peasy to run on my Dad’s end.

Tonight I did an online chat Best Buy Geek Squad support. (I purchase GS and protection plan each year for my Dad for Father’s Day). They said they use “logmein” for their remote support. It would cost money for me to set that up, so still looking for a tool recommendation. Or…maybe I will just let GS do all his remote support :wink:

After LogMeIn started charging for use, I switched to Chrome Remote Desktop.

Thanks, Pooh. DS set him up with Chrome for viewer, so that would probably work well.

I use the free version of JoinMe. I have used it to share something on my computer with a long distance relative, as well as solve problems and update documents on their computer.

Thanks! So will Chrome viewer and JoinMe both allow me to "drive’ (change settings), not just view?

Yes, JoinMe allows you to drive the other computer.

What platform? Windows has remote access capacity built in – see <a href=“How to use Remote Desktop - Microsoft Support”>Windows help & learning;

Yes, Windows. Thanks! I did not know about the remote desktop functions.
