Remove Race From HS Transcript

If race isn’t reported, there isn’t a way for those who are searching for a diverse campus to know if it is diverse. At some point it is going to be 99% ‘other’.

One daughter really wanted a diverse campus but got to the point where she couldn’t find a match school that showed a lot of diversity in the stats. Surprise, her school has a lot of diversity in ways that don’t show up in the stats. There are international students, a lot of religious diversity, Hispanic students (racial and ethnic).

I think the race question should be eliminated just because there are so many children who are now multi-ethnic (and hopefully we will see more in the future). I’m all for diversity, but it’s not going to come if we continue to be required to label ourselves just one way.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Let’s focus on what the OP should do. General discussion not related to the OP regarding race, checking a box, and college admissions needs to be on the below linked thread:

I am confused. Are you saying that your child is hispanic due to percentage on a DNA test? And that her grandmother is European Spanish (full or a portion?). Do you want the schools to think she is hispanic? Otherwise, what is wrong with the transcipt saying non-Hispanic?

OP wants the ability for the student not to say anything and not have anything else like the HS transcript say anything about her race or ethnicity.

Flaparent, I researched a bit of this too when my oldest was applying to colleges. Like you, I wanted to remove all race identifying markers on the high school transcript. When I called the Board of Education (for my state) I was told that there are two high school transcripts. One is kept for an indefinite period of time at the Board of Ed (includes race) and another one (does not include race) that is used to send to colleges. The transcripts that my child used to bring home always had race at the top of it. I can only trust that what they told me is accurate and don’t have reason to believe otherwise. Perhaps you could call your county board/school district to get further details. Good luck.
