<p>I agree, she looks terrible now. She’s too thin and it looks to me like she had something done to her eyes. Like many people who have plastic surgery she looked better before.</p>
<p>First, my apologies for breaking the rules: I knew that links to blogs weren’t allowed, but I didn’t realize that there was also a general prohibition against posting links to photos (which is why the links I posted have now been removed).</p>
<p>It’s easy enough to find similar photos yourself if you do a search for “Renee Zellweger” in Google images; the specific photos were taken at a Vera Wang show the other day.</p>
<p>I suspect that she’s had something done to her face also. Nobody’s lips look like that naturally. I always wonder a little bit about cosmetic surgery in general. How is it that Hollywood actresses, who can afford the best cosmetic surgeons in the world, end up looking so bad so often? – often enough to fill the pages of the supermarket tabloids every time they have one of their special “awful plastic surgery” issues, as well as to supply material for websites devoted to the subject (none of which I’ve ever looked at myself, of course!) Don’t they have anyone around who can tell them that they look terrible, and nothing like themselves? Are they not seeing what everyone else sees? Don’t they know that nobody looks good with giant, swollen lips?</p>
<p>And, yes, I’m aware that a lot of it is a product of the societal pressures on women (particularly women in that profession) to look thin and young, but does this kind of thing actually help their careers? Does anyone want to hire them anymore when they look like this? If not, shouldn’t that be a clue? They can’t <em>all</em> be clinically anorexic, and delusional about their own appearance, but it sometimes seems that way. I doubt RZ is more than 40, but in at least one of the photos I posted, she could easily pass for 50. In addition to being painfully thin (just look at her elbows in one of those photos), her face looks nothing like herself. I wonder if maybe she purses her lips like that to draw in her cheeks and make her face look even skinnier than it does already. </p>
<p>In any event, if people who can afford the best cosmetic surgery end up looking like this, I suppose that fact can have a salutary effect by deterring those of us who can’t afford the best. It’s certainly worked with me: whenever I used to tell J. that I wanted my nose fixed (I admit that like many Jewish women, I’ve struggled with internalized anti-Semitic standards of beauty), he would make me look at photos of bad plastic surgery as a warning!</p>
<p>Perhaps the celebs, when told by a reputable physician that the results they seek are not reasonable, will just doctor shop until someone takes their money?</p>
<p>I never thought that RZ was a classic beauty, but I thought she was attractive enough in Jerry Maguire. She does have a round face, and I wonder if when she looks in the mirror and sees that fullness, she interprets it as meaning that she’s “fat.” And thus she purses her lips to make her face narrower – and diets to the point of anorexia. I agree that she has gotten much too skinny.</p>
<p>One of my favorite fashion bloggers (T Lo, or Project Rungay), had this to say about how she looked at that Vera Wang opening: “Where are your gays, Miss Zellweger? We mean besides the ones you’re constantly dating and marrying? Because honey, if you had non-closeted gays in your life, they would have pointed out a long time ago the correlation between your increasing usage of the lemon face and your declining career.”</p>

<p>MS- I would have to say, as an RZ despiser, that is the cutest pic of her I have ever seen, I cannot speak to whether or not she is a good actress as something about her is so distracting I cannot forget she is RZ…I totally annoy my kids as I comment on her throughout the movie. :D</p>
<p>^^Somemom; I used to feel that way about Helen Hunt. At one time she seemed to be in every movie going and I couldn’t stand seeing her. She doesn’t seem to be “in vogue” any more so I can relax! I liked RZ very much in the Bridget Jones films.</p>

<p>Somemom - I feel that way about Ellen Barkin - I can’t stand to watch her movies. RZ and HH to a lesser degree. The Big Easy, Oceans “whatever”… But the guys were great, so I forced myself to watch them.</p>
<p>I hope that was just a bad case of Photoshop, not cancer or any other horrible disease.</p>

<p>Eh, I can sort of understand not linking to photos. I mean, I’ve heard that every once in a while there might possibly be some photos on the Web that certain people for some reason might possibly not want to see. Maybe. :p</p>
<p>^haha, well i can understand that. but i have heard of infractions [or received them, myself] for exactly what i mentioned–“questioning the moderators”–verbatim, in an infraction PM, lol. the adults on this site probably get affected by it to a much lesser degree. because, well…what can i say? we kids just like questioning authority, like that :)</p>

<p>I think there are a few things going on. Maybe they actually do like how they look. Maybe they are surrounded by sycophants who tell them how great they look and they believe them. Also, there is the cognitive dissonance factor – the fact that they spent so much money makes it uncomfortable to accept that it looks bad and thus they decide that it looks good. And in a few cases, I suspect a body dysmorphic disorder, where a person truly does not see what the people around them see. I know someone who started out as a natural beauty and kept taking steps – against the pleadings of her family – to alter herself. She looks odd to everyone else, but she truly believes she looks fantastic. She sees it differently. </p>
<p>As for the TOS, I’m sure I read them back in the day, and I’m sure I couldn’t tell you much of what it said. If I got paid a dollar for every TOS box I’ve ever checked or read online, I’m sure I could go to a very nice dinner and maybe take a few CC members with me. I can’t even keep track of all the various passwords I have just to get onto various websites, most of which have to do with work or other commitments. But I’ll try to remember the one about links to blogs and photos.</p>
<p>Well, I got an infraction myself, today, for posting those photo links. It didn’t really bother me. I guess the rule makes sense, since moderators obviously wouldn’t have the time to check every link to a photo to make sure that the photos were “safe” for people to look at. </p>
<p>It’s more embarrassing to get suspended from posting or PM’ing for a few days, which has happened to me once or twice in the nearly two years I’ve been here. For what, I won’t say!</p>
<p>I did once post a link to a photo of myself, last spring, not out of vanity but in case anyone wanted to see if something I had said about myself was true. But it was one of those links that’s just a word underlined, so I doubt that more than a handful of people even noticed it. For all I know it’s still there!</p>

<p>OK, confession time: I was suspended once last year for my habit of posting quotations that were too long, even though the materials weren’t copyright protected. I managed to get the suspension revoked after a day or so, and I’ve tried to be better about doing that ever since. I think there was another one for getting really, really upset with claremarie, but that might only have been an infraction.</p>
