Rent A Fridge

Hey all, I was surfing the internet a week ago and found a website where berkeley provides a fridge/microwave combo for rent for a year for 175.00

I can’t seem to find the website and now i’m considering getting it.

Does anyone have the website or know where it is??

thanks.

Just noting that for a bit over that amount, you can buy yourself both items :).

Exactly… what a rip off!

What you could do if you don’t want to keep the fridge, is buy one at the beginning of the year and sell it at the end of the year, and the difference is the amount you paid to “rent” it-I’m sure that will be less than $175.

I am buying a mini-fridge for $25. Much cheaper than the rip off loan system they have. I get to keep the fridge for the entire 4 years too.

for convienence purposes, i want to rent

anyone know where the website is?

Why is renting one more convenient? You have to apply, then wait until they can find one for you. It would be better to buy a cheap one at eBAY, don’t you think it makes logical sense?

Exactly. Buy one for less than $175 on ebay (or store), and at the end of the year you don’t want it just donate it or put it on the sidewalk.

Buying anything on ebay never makes logical sense. You are purchasing crap from complete strangers on the assumption it is what they say it is. Of the few times I have purchased items through ebay, I have been very disappointed. Furthermore, what you may consider convenient is different from what sasmvp may; he probably believes it is easier to fill out a little bit of paperwork and have the fridge and microwave delivered, then picked up from his place in a year when he no longer needs it. I mean, most people would consider their time more valuable than spending it trying to save a few bucks; at least, that makes more logical sense to me.

it’s more convenient because if you rent through microsolutions, they will bring your microwave and refrigerator right to your room at the beginning of the year, and they will take it out at the end of the year. and the two-in-one combination saves energy since the refrigerator turns off when you use the microwave.

i can’t seem to find the website either, but i’ll tell you that this past year, i rented one with my roommate. my roommate took care of everything, but he told me that there was a guy there on move-in day for people who wanted to rent. and other people called in later on and got theirs that way too.

I have had very good experiences with ebay for all my purchases. Before buying something, just do a little investigating on the seller’s background and make sure he’s credible. Look at his previous ratings, etc.

If sniped right, items can be purchased at such low prices. I just bought a Ti 89 the other day for 50 bucks from ebay, and it’s in like new condition :)

the rental info on refrig/micros is on the housing website under the what to bring section. i heard you can buy the same combo unit at best-buy for under $200 if people are interested in buying. some people prefer to rent because they don’t have to worry about storing it at the end of the year for next year, it’s just more convenient and also you don’t have to move it.

yeah; i lost that rental link and was trying to find it but no success yet…

From my experiences with eBay, I have never been disappointed in quality so far, and I have made over a hundred purchases. It is true you are buying things from complete strangers, but that does not imply that what you are getting are less than what you are expecting. Most of the time, you get stuff that are cheap, convenient, and in good overall shape.

from the housing website:

Micro 101 Solutions, Inc. has Energy Star micro-fridges available for lease or purchase. Look for the “Energy Star” logo on appliances and electrical products you buy for your room. www.micro101.com

you can also buy from them… convenient thing is they deliver right to your room.

thank you to those who stayed on point in this thread! special thanks to CA2006 for the link
