Bought our airline tickets, reserved an apartment in Paris for a week at the end of May. Then, I just got an email from the rental agency that they had double-booked our apartment and we were out of luck. It is really difficult to find a place this late in the game. Any suggestions?

We rented an apartment on Ile Saint Louis for late June, early July just a few weeks ago through VRBO.com. It is the third time we’ve rented through VRBO, but the first time internationally. Fingers are crossed that all goes smoothly.

Have you looked at VRBO Paris? I have rented many places in the US using VRBO and had excellent luck. I have never tried it internationally though, but it couldn’t hurt if you are having trouble finding a place.

PM poster musicamusica, she knows Paris like her own backyard :)

There are usually a couple of Paris apartment threads running on Fodors.com and Slow Travel has reviews as well. I would look at recommended places and then hit against the availability calendars on VRBO.

H & I have rented several times from Paris Perfect with great success.

I’ve used Apartmentsapart.com to rent apartments in Prague and Warsaw. My neighbor used them about three months ago to rent one in Paris. We both had very good experiences. Reasonable prices, and their website has pictures of what each apartment looks like and a map of where it’s located in relation to center of town.

I had a delightful place in March for 10 days. I will PM you the info. Very small, 2 people, but centrally located.

wooops, just checked…fully booked for May
but email Fabrice (vrbo listing 113302) and he may have
something else.

We used this company for a wonderful stay in London; they have now expanded to Paris and Rome.

We also used Paris Perfect and had a great experience. The apartment had an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower. It was also easy to catch cabs because we could walk the few blocks to the tower and the taxi stand there always had some (otherwise, you have to call the taxi company and pay an extra charge for them to drive to you first). One of the owners of Paris Perfect is American, so we had an easy time communicating.
They also booked nannies for us a few nights.

The place we stayed is available the 27th-31st…probably not long enough?

We have rented through VRBO.com several times for Paris apartments & have always been satisfied. One truly outstanding place that MADE our vacation was listing 56974 in the 9th arrondissement. Spacious, gorgeous, blissfully quiet, & near everything. We will be back! It was just like living like real Parisians. So much nicer than a hotel.

I’m the original poster…I wanted to say “thank you” for all of the great advice. I checked into each and every recommendation. Many of the VRBO listings turned out to placed by agencies; not really what I expected. Many other agencies had no availability. We ended up using Paris For Rent; and were thrilled with our apartment in St. Germaine area; we were on a quiet street in a bustling neighborhood, above a fantastic wine store. I really miss Paris, leaning out of our window, watching people go by.

yaaaaaaaaaaaay!

^^@jg0339, I have chatted with these VRBO ‘agencies’, so can pass along what I know. All they usually are are simply small (maybe 1 person) managers, often American, that live in Paris & handle the rentals of the apartments for their owners. The manager takes a cut of the rent, and in exchange, handles the bookings & arranges the apartment cleanings after each departure. They often meet the arriving guests & show them around the apartment & are available for help if needed during the stay. I’ve met a few of these managers when renting in France & Italy. They are by no means big companies or faceless large agencies. They usually represent a handful of properties, each of which is privately owned by different people. I’ve found it a reliable & friendly way of blending in with a vacation destination & have found VRBO extremely easy to use. Best of luck on your next trip!

Great to hear the happy ending, jg0339. I always feel a little conspiratorial in renting an apartment rather than a hotel…it’s like the world’s best kept secret. So much more comfortable, and you get so much more for your money. Love being able to shop like the locals & cook a meal at “home”.
