Renting studio / room

I’m an international student and when I come to Carolina as a freshman this fall, my mom will come along with me. She’ll stay with me until the end of September. During the time between move-in day and the date she leaves, she’ll need to rent a studio or a room. Does anyone know whether this will be hard to find and where I could start my search for one?

The Residence Inn in Chapel Hill on Erwin Road (convenient by bus to UNC campus) has weekly rentals and is brand new and beautiful. “How Suite It Is” and Chapelhillsuite.com are a couple of others that have longer-term availability. All of these places are going to be expensive, though. For links and/or phone numbers, do a search on Chapel Hill weekly rentals.

To find a moderately-priced room, perhaps in a home, you might need someone local to do some digging around for you. Is there an office at UNC that helps International students get settled? Are you associated with a department that might have some offers posted on a bulletin board? Definitely check the Daily Tar Heel (student newspaper) classified ads online.

The Days Inn on Fordham Blvd. has reasonable daily rates and might be a good place for your mom to spend a few nights when you first get to town if you haven’t found anything else by then. There are other moderately priced motels in Chapel Hill but their rates are about the same and the Days Inn is much nicer than the others. If she wanted to stay right on campus, there is always the Carolina Inn, but it costs a fortune.

Good luck!

You might try craigslist.com

Just wanted to say that I stayed at the Residence Inn on Erwin that was mentioned and loved it. It’s brand new, extremely clean and the bed was very comfy.

Best of luck!!
