Renting vs buying furniture

Since I am an OOS student, I do not really want to buy furniture. But I heard that buying them is much better in both cost wise and quality wise. Also, I will be living in Alice Lloyd hall next year, and I want to know what I am going to need.

What is better. buying furniture and storing them at storage service (ie: UHaul) when I have to move out or renting them?

Is microwave needed? How often do you use it?

How far is Target from the campus? I plan to buy most of the things i need in ann arbor…

What are some things I should bring to a single room?

Why do you need to rent/buy furniture if you are staying at Lloyd?

Microwave is nice to have but not absolutely necessary.

There are 2 Targets in town and both in South a few miles away. You will need either a ride or take a bus to go there.

Bedding, table lamp,…

@billcsho‌ Thanks! What do you suggest I do with bedding? I heard RHL Linen program is really bad… Also, I do not know anyone there so I won’t have a ride.

Go to your hometown Target today or soon and buy an XL fitted sheet and XL flat top sheet, bath towel and hand towel to dry your hands and face.
Pack a bar of soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, shower flip flops anything you need to cover yourself for a few days until you can get over to Target.
You can’t expect to be able to shop the day you land in Ann Arbor so you have to bring the basics with you.

You can catch the bus or mooch a ride off your hall mates to the Target near campus.
You can buy your pillow, comforter, laundry soap, dryer sheets, snacks, school supplies, whatnots at the Target and call the local cab company for a ride back to the dorm with your bulky items if you took the bus there.

^you can also just to out and buy that stuff now or buy online at Bed Bath and Beyond and have it shipped to the dorm on their dorm program. No need to hassle with car-less local shopping, really.

We got the linen from BBB, but my D saw it cheaper at Target although the quality seems lower. The RHL is very expensive compare to what we found at Target and BBB. Just make sure you buy them soon. These stores may not carry the twinXL regularly but only during the back to school season. A sheet set with pillow case starts at $20-$30. BBB is closer to campus than Target. You may signup online and receive a 20% off coupon. They do online order with in store pick up too if you buy less than the $49 for free shipping.

If you want cheap but passable quality, go on craigslist, or any Michigan Facebook(Maize Market, Class of 201X, etc…)
