I am planning to apply to prep school this year going into sophomore year. I want to do a repeat for higher admission rates and being at a prep school for longer. How would credits transfer? Would I have to take the same math and language classes again? Do my APUSH credits transfer?
I’m sure they’ll give you placement tests for math and language so you will not have to repeat subject levels that you have mastered. Probably no credit for APUSH but your AP score will always be there and you might possibly be allowed to substitute a higher level history course for, say, a basic course in US history.
Depends upon the school. Some schools will do a straight credit transfer; others will look at it class by class. That said, don’t get hung up on this, since you would still have to take X number of credits from the new school anyway regardless of what credits transfer
.
For most schools, as an incoming student, you would have to take a placement test in math and foreign language, and will be placed accordingly. So there is a chance that you would need to retake the class if your results do not indicate that you have mastered the material. If you do well on the placement test, it’s unlikely you would need to retake the class.
The college credits based upon your score will depend upon the college you attend. How the new school will handle the HS credit is the same as mentioned earlier.
But really, don’t worry about any of this until you actually get accepted to a school. Good luck.
