Guys, this is a heads up that we just implemented what we believe is a positive change for the community. We have replaced the Jailing status with Time Out. Instead of the jail bars, user who are temporary banned will now display a new avatar (very similar to the Banned one that we had introduced recently) consisting of the faded CC logo in the background and TIME OUT written across.
So how is this different from a temporary ban? Will the poster be able to post? Send PMs or whatever else they could do when in jailbars as opposed to having temporarily lost prosing privileges while in a temporary ban?
TIME OUT maintains the same restrictions as the jailed status. This is just a display change; we’ve replaced the jail bars to create a more positive community for the CC users.
Looks like “time out” is not visible on Firefox mobile, where the affected users show normal avatars.
@CCadmin_Sorin, I wanted to flag post #3 to your attention.
@MaineLonghorn, thanks for flagging! @ucbalumnus, do you happen to have an example of a user?
can you give an example of someone who is in time out so we can check?
@CCadmin_Sorin I’ve PM’d an example to you
The “time out” user that I saw this with has since been “banned”, so the “time out” difference in Firefox mobile versus Firefox desktop is no longer visible with that user.
However, I would suggest to moderators that if you put “time out” on a user, that you can then check that user’s avatar on both Firefox mobile and Firefox desktop. Some other mobile browsers may also show the difference (possibly like in the “banned” avatar thread).
Thanks, @skieurope! I am seeing it fine though on my Firefox laptop. Can anyone take a screenshot and send it to me via email at admin@collegeconfidential.com? Thanks!
I believe the issue is isolated to Firefox for mobile @CCadmin_Sorin ; this is not the first time that I’ve heard this. However, I personally will not use Firefox, so someone else needs will need to do the screenshot.
People in time out can still post in threads? So how are they in “time out”? (other than from starting. thread or maybe no PMing??
@jym626 Yes. The restrictions for Time Out are exactly the same as the restrictions when we had jail bars - users cannot start threads, but they can post in existing ones and they have a lag between posts. They can still PM assuming they are at the 15 posts. It’s just a change of name.
Where can we see the rules about what violations would cause someone to be banned or in Time out? I cannot find them but I imagine it’s right in front of my face…
@AgouraLiz There are links on the bottom of every page:
http://www.collegeconfidential.com/policies/rules/
http://www.collegeconfidential.com/policies/terms-of-service/
At the bottom of each page, the two links that say “Rules” and “Terms of Service”:
http://www.collegeconfidential.com/policies/rules/
http://www.collegeconfidential.com/policies/terms-of-service/
In practice, reading over these pages, listening to the mods and heeding their warnings should be sufficient to keep from getting banned or a time out.
