I find this appalling. It is the very worst sort of limousine liberal, politically correct attempt to socially engineer college and college admissions. It used to be admirable if a student held down a job while in high school. Now they must do all sorts of community service to prove their dedication to social causes? Guess what? Those from wealthy families can afford to work for free for the benefit of others. …this admirable sounding platform is like so much dogooderism: just further separation of the rich and everyone else as well further burdening students to prove themselves. The exact opposite of the stated goals of this charade.

LOL. I think most people share common ground in lots of places…
Although somewhere in there they do talk about giving more “credit” to working lower-income kids: kids who hold down jobs and/or contribute to their family by helping out at home. How this will be measured remains to be seen. But I too miss the days of high school students holding down jobs that are just that - jobs. Not padding for college applications.
Yes Who is the measurer? Further, what are the guidelines for assessing, valuing or measuring kindness, empathy, altruistic tendencies etc? Certainly not an empathy test …(yes I am referencing the SSAT’s new experiment). We live in an era of blind deference to the value of enforced political correctness. Look at the student demonstrators at elite universities refusing to hear any divergent opinions from people they disagree with. If that is the case then why is debate such a valued extracurricular? Ugh. I am too disgusted to even think about this.
