Assets that I need to report on the FAFSA are:
savings bonds
529b college plan
rental house
money market
stocks

Do I add these all together and put them on one line of the FAFSA? I would have thought there would be separate entries for each one, but I’m not sure I see that.

Another question, we purchased our rental house with a home equity loan on our residential house. The rental is valued at $28,000. We still owe $18,000 on the equity loan. Can I claim the rental to be valued at $10,000?

There are not separate entries for them. They are all treated the same in the EFC formula.

You report the net value of any assets. But the debt has to be directly against the asset. So a mortgage against the rental property can be used to reduce its value. The loan against your primary home can not as it is against the primary home which is not a reportable asset.
