Reporting In-Great NYC "Meet-Up"

Does anyone have pictures???

So-o-o-o-o-o-o envious!!! And wait, JG’s uncle is Eric Foner?? I had a Prof. Foner at Colby – was it Eric or his briother? (Obviously college was more than a couple of yars ago! LOL) All I can say is next time I’m definitely going to get to the meet up.

OK…Seriously, my ex -husband’s last name is Foner, so my kids’ last names are too. Their paternal grandfather had 11 brother’s and sisters and they insist that Jake Gyllenhal is their second cousin. He does look a lot like my son

The part I liked the best (after meeting my fellow CC’ers, of course!) was when we looked up, and all of a sudden, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus starting to march a parade of elephants through the lower level of Grand Central, on their way to Madison Square Garden. It was an amazing sight, and Jake and Natalie rode off on the lead elephant, waving goodbye to all of us. Did anyone else at the table notice the elephants? Oh, and the Junior’s cheesecake was great.

OK. So this is all a big joke, huh? No fair. No fair. We are already with you in spirit. No need for Jake and Natalie…

I just missed all of you as I was in NYC and flew home yesterday and sat a long time at LaGuardia due to cancelled flights. Too bad, as I’d like to have been there. Going back next weekend.

Would have like to have met Natalie too. She went to my daughter’s theater camp and stopped around the time my D started attending.

Bethie, I am back in Vermont and have been away the past 11 days and we still gotta do lunch. Not sure we’ll run into celebs here in VT but ya never know.

It sounded great - but I’m with alumother… confused here. Natalie and Jake is a joke, but the meetup was real??? (And I had to wiki Jake to figure out who he is. I suppose it wasn’t a waste of a lookup. :frowning: )

I was believing the Jake and Natalie thing, but the elephants hiking from Grand Central to Madison Square Garden sounds unlikely…not enough pooper-scoopers that big in all of the Big Apple!

You know, my skeptic-o-meter almost went off at the mention of the two celebs staying at the table for an hour but what the heck, it was a nice story so I fell hook, line and sinker anyway.

Hey, I have a story too. Once I was buying art supplies at a store in Westwood and Gene Hackman was waiting to purchase oil paints and I looked right at him and he looked right at me, and winked. Didn’t offer to buy my materials, though.

Here’s what I posted in the “old” thread-- moving it to its correct location:
“What a blast!! Fourteen in addendance (a few spouses were in residence too). As my internet is currently extraordinarily unreliable (already lost my connection once trying to type this) I’ll defer so other attendees to fill in the details. But, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came out in the post-snow to enjoy lunch and chat, to mathmom for making incredible CC nametags (they can be added to the items for sale here, with the thong!) and ESPECIALLY to LIMOMOF2 for going out of her way to get the yummy chocolate bread!! My cousin is here and now yelling at me to get off the computer. More to follow…”

And sorry… we had a little fun with the facts of the guest honorees. The elephants were real, but the celebs… :)

Jake may have picked up the tab at your end of the table, but I guess you didn’t realize that the waitress brought a separate check to our end. We tried to negotiate for merit aid, but she said that our FAFSA wasn’t in on time. No matter, the ringmaster stepped in and insisted on paying … while he was there he invited Natalie and Jake to ride out with him.

Just another day in the Big Apple.

Yes, the meetup was very real.

Well, I did have dinner with John Lennon in 1976. And Natalie Portman went to my high school and is best friends with my mother’s best friend’s daughter.

twinmom: You are cute!

mythmom: You are cute too!

I totally missed the thread on this big party. It must have been a blast. I wonder what you guys talked about? :)

Ok, were you guys surprised by everyone’s appearance? I speak with a lot of my colleagure outside of my region, and I am often surprised when I finally meet them.

You are brave to expose your spouse to this. I am still reluctant to tell my husband how much time I spend on CC.

Everyone was gorgeous, some a bit taller or shorter than expected.

And mostly we talked about the cheesecake. What else do you talk about at Junior’s???

I was very happy to get to meet mythmom and team_mom in NYC a few weeks ago (And I’ve met jym on hometurf), but I’m starting to feel a bit hurt - didn’t know there were so many others of you snubbing me!

But we DID have somebody famous with us. Or almost.

Anyhoo, sounds like you all had a great time, and I wish I coulda been there. Let me guess - jym was shorter? :)

All righty, then. The Bay Area Halloween coffee-klatch was the More Elite Meet-Up. We had a Private Party in a restaurant owned by mstee’s friend. WE were the celebs.
Well, at least sluggbugg was. And she and sluggyH both wore their Banana Slug sweatshirts. As I recall.

:::: smirks smugly:::::

Let the truth be known, we weren’t elite at all. Just a bunch of regular folks … mostly in black so that we could look like chic New Yorkers (and identify one another.)

And in typical New York fashion, no passer-byers even noticed the CC stickers. We just blended right in with the crowd.

So there really wasn’t a celeb sighting? I’m so gullible. Even my H and S (who lives in ny) believed the story. It’s a good thing that I haven’t talked to my D, since she’s 6 hours ahead and right now concerned that she’ll have to stay up until 5:00a.m watching the Oscars.

Sorry, nyumom… see post#30… we were just havin’ a little fun… When we discussed making something silly to claim happened, and discussed what famous celebs might be in NY, I suggested the Olsen twins, as they’d been at NYU. However, no one would believe they ate with us-- because we all know they don’t eat!
As for appearances, there were a few comments to mythmom, who, as was expected by a few people, wore a long skirt … and a cool necklace. Sybbie came up and gave me a big hello, but since she didn’t yet have a nametag on and I did, I had to ask who she was (sorry syb!). We then celebrated her snaring the 10,000th post in SA! We also toasted to LTS’s good health. I forgot who suggested that, but it was a very nice idea. Speak up and take credit. I think it might have been “verryhappy” who did that. Am I right?

Binx… don’t feel snubbed. You offered an opportunity to hear really good, classy music-- we did CHEESECAKE. I just finished polishing off my H’s carrot cake cheesecake. Yummm (momof3sons ordered it too, and I snared a bite of hers at lunch  ) By the way, binx, you are my new best friend!!! I hear through the CC “grapevine” that you thought I was “elegant”. After I stopped laughing, I realized I think I love you!! I don’t think I’ve ever been called that before. PS-- I was wearing my late mom’s jewelry the day you and I met… She is the one with good taste :)
