Reporting scores

I’ve taken both the math level 1 and math level 2 sat subject tests. My score in math level 1 is 770 while my score in math level 2 is 780. I already have a 790 in the chemistry subject tests. I’m confused as to whether I should report both my math subject tests or only the level 2 test along with chemistry. Also are my scores upto the mark for competitive engineering colleges such as Cornell and Columbia?

Just report the 780. There is no reason the send M1 - it’s considered the same subject, just with fewer topics. It would be like sending Spanish and Spanish with Listening.

Yes - they’re excellent. Congrats.

Math1 and Math2 are one subject even if you send both. Many schools like Stanford would prefer Math2. There is no reason for you to send or take Math1.

Thank you

There now appears to be only one college, Georgetown, that requires you to submit all of your subject test scores, but since you are applying for engineering I doubt you are applying to Georgetown, which does not have engineering. Cornell was a college that required all subject test scores, but its latest all scores statement appears to apply only to SAT and ACT. See https://admissions.cornell.edu/standardized-testing-requirements. Other than for colleges that actually require all subject test scores, you can choose to send only the math 2 and chemistry. Nevertheless, sending all three of your scores will cause no harm: (a) colleges that require or recommend subject tests want tests in different subjects and thus consider your submitting both a math 1 and math 2 as submitting only one test, and they will use the one with the higher score; (b) all three of your scores are high and more more than enough for any college that requires or recommends subject tests; i.e., you won’t be rejected because of subject test scores so it is the rest of your application information that will determine admission.

Also how much more important is the SAT as compared to the Sat subject tests in competitive colleges. Would taking more subject tests such as Physics and scoring well on them improve my chances of admission significantly. I am confused on whether to retake the SAT, in order to improve my score of 1470 which is on the lower side for colleges like Columbia, or should I give a subject test in Physics.

AFAIK, there is no mathematical relationship, but SAT is more important that Subject Tests. There is no point in taking a 3rd Subject Test - the scores are more than acceptable and a 3rd test (since M1 will not count as an extra test) will not serve as a substitute for SAT scores. Nothing, other than a higher ACT score equivalent, will override your SAT scores. So if you’re considering spending another Saturday in the testing center, trying to improve the SAT score is the way to go, IMO.
