hi all! by the time i apply to stanford REA i’ll likely have made $3k+ from a small tutoring business i started this summer. do i report this number or would it come across as braggy?
You should be paying taxes on $3000 of income this year. So, if this is a year that will be used for your financial aid applications, then yes, you should report it.

oh i meant, do i write the number in my common app activities description? or more so just say number of students tutored etc

I don’t think it matters. The number of hours you spent tutoring will be of interest.

The amount you earned is not all that important. You don’t need to state the amount you earned. Maybe the number of students you tutored, or how many hours a week you did the job. It shows you took some initiative to create and work this job.

I would mention that you tutor X number of students over the course of the year and an estimate of how many hours. Of course you should state what subject you tutor in.
No, it’s not going to hurt your app. It’s a good thing. If you are worried about the taxman, talk to your parents.

That’s the point you want to get across. Leave out any monitized amount for anything.
Being a tutor shows leadership skills and maturity. The subject is important. It doesn’t make a difference though. My son was a chess tutor which was monetized and a math tutor which was done at his school. It’s a nice EC to have.
You can always say you tutored X number of students for Y number of hours and mention the subjects.

This! What you did is far more important than the amount of money you earned. Leave the money out in your description.
