Request for Feedback on SAT Prep Plan

Hey there,

So I’m currently a junior in HS and I want to take the SAT maybe sometime in September. I want to get a decent score while not slaving over it so I’ve allotted 2 hours per week for studying material and I thought about what the best way to get the highest possible score in that time frame is and I thought to ask you guys about your opinion on it. In January, (first time I took it) I scored a 1970.

First off, I’m not going to worry about the Writing section as most colleges don’t care about that. Next, I figured the best way for me to get a high score is to be exposed to as many different types of questions as possible - since once I know how to solve a certain type, there’s a high chance I can do it correctly the next time I see it, even if I’ve only encountered it once before in practice.

My current strategy involves looking for hard SAT questions on Google and places like erikthered.com, I’m also thinking about picking up a cheap version of the old Blue Book - my question is - is the best way to get a diverse exposure to a wide variety of questions? And is getting that wide exposure the best bet for getting a high score?

Many thanks!

There’s no September SAT. Early October is the first one after June.

The best book available is the BB. You will increase with that book if you study and practice your mistakes and learn not to get that wrong question again. There are a lot of strategies. Maybe going through the hard ones won’t help you at all. You need to get step by step.

@marvin100 Ok, I’ll take that one. Thanks

@Jr12317 What do you mean by “step-by-step”?

I meant not going first through the hard ones. Identify the questions that you miss the most.

@Jr12317 Okay, I thought that maybe if I went for the hard ones, I’ll have more questions that I miss in general - like maybe I’ll miss 7/10 - whereas if I just go through a test, the ratio of missed-to-not-missed would be a lot smaller, so I would have to go through more problems to see where I make mistakes - I thank you for your help!
