Requesting Advice on SAT 2 study plan

Greetings,

I am in need of advice on how to squeeze in SAT 2 prep into a busy spring high school schedule with AP classes, athletics, etc.

My older child is planning to do SAT 2 math lvl 2 and biology M in May; and possibly retaking them in June if May scores are bad.

I already bought Barron’s SAT 2 prep books for Math 2 and Biology E/M.

How did those of you who prepared successfully for SAT 2’s squeeze in the prep in the 1-2 months before the test dates?

It seems to me that finding time to read entire prep books like Barron’s for Math 2 and Bio might be a tall order.

Did you just do practice tests on weekends in the month before the tests and then concentrate on your weaknesses? Or did you do the books cover to cover?

Please be as specific as you can on how you scheduled your preparation and how much time you started preparing in advance.

Thanks!

Addendum:
Really what I want to know is how you fit studying for Sat 2’s into a busy schedule?

My current plan involves having him practice tests from Barron’s for math 2 and biology every weekend for 2 months before the test - not having him read each book cover to cover but focusing on weaknesses only because he says his schedule is too busy for that (and I agree).

Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks!

Depends on your target score - for bio, if you’re aiming for 700-800, I would recommend skimming over areas that he is already familiar as there can be minor details on the tests.

Secondly, don’t limit bio to M, skim through both sections on the actual test because the E questions are usually common sense and can sometimes be easier.

For my practicing - I’m only doing bio and maybe lit last minute for January 25 and I started prep after New Year’s. I spend one full day each weekend going over the material in Barron’s, PR and skipping over sections I think I know, and only doing the respective section’s practice questions. If there’s stuff I don’t know, I’ll go through the chapter and read over those details. I do one practice test each weekend and read the answer details including the ones for questions I got right. I’m saving my practice tests for the week before.

I’m in IB (similar to AP in theory - advanced classes) and I also have final exams the week of the SAT. I have extracurricular requirements for IB as well so I think with good time managements skills it can easily be pulled off.

However, I am a procrastinator who works well under pressure and can focus for long periods of time. It really depends on your son.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks!

That helps a lot!
