Requesting an Admissions Interview

Is it appropriate to call my top schools to schedule an admissions interview in an attempt to increase admission/scholarship chances?

Most schools offer no interviews whatsoever. I see you’re looking at UMiami and RIT – perhaps others.

For the handful of schools that do offer them, they have exact mechanisms in order to conduct them – and this isn’t based upon applicant request.

You need to find out what the protocol is for each school. That info should be on their websites. My daughter has done 3 interviews so far and has 1 coming up next week. Two schools she just followed the directions on the website on how to schedule the recommended interviews (one online, one she had to call in.) One emailed her after application was submitted that she would be interviewed and that an alumni would contact her (and they did.) Another contacted her with a link and directions on how to register for the only mandatory interview of all the schools she’s looking at.

Really read the websites from top to bottom. The info should be there.

Actually, sometimes interviews are available in response to an applicant request. You do need to get accurate information on a school by school basis from each website.

I was going to say, D did all her interviews last summer at the upper level LACs she was applying to. You just called or used the website and set an appointment if you wanted one on campus. And often the same thing for alumni interviews in your area.

It really varies from school to school. Some do them, some don’t, some let you schedule them, others call you. There’s probably more variability here than any other area for similar schools.
