Requesting new SAT / grades

Requesting new SAT / grades

A friend of mine from school who s application is still indicating no decision has been made yet has submitted just above average stats was contacted by USF by e-mail and she was suggested to retake the SAT and submit her senior first semester grades and my friend ask for my opinion as to why USF is asking. I told her that I was under the impression that when admissions ask for senior grades and advises to retake the SAT that means that the candidate is borderline. Any other reason / suggestion ? Thanks She has 3.05 and 1660

Yes your right, they do that for borderline students or at least that’s my understanding as well. Here is a link to a chart on the USF admissions website http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/counselor-grid.pdf</a> which shows your chances by GPA and other factors.

It does mean she is on the fence with USF; she’s getting a second chance. USF is giving her a chance to be accepted with her presenting good grades for fall semester and improved SAT scores to tip her to USF side of fence. If your friend wants to attend USF she should do what USF requested asap before they make their final admission decision.

I thank the both of you for your responses…
Lizard----
If I may ask, where did you get this information as I would like to show her?
BTW - The school will send the first semester grades soon and she signed-up again for the SAT next week.

The admission grid link Corster posted above mentions about 10 times in the guidelines that: “…applicant will be deferred for
first semester senior grades and/or new test scores.”

Ultimately an admission officer can make the final decision on an applicant. The grid thing is just a guideline. Admissions offices have unwritten guidelines too that they use. Don’t ask me how that works, that is the cloaked mystery element of the admission process.

Lizard-
I thank you again, and one last question if you or anyone may answer.
When does the USF admission committee begin to change the still pending
admissions into flat-out rejections or hopefully accepted?

USF does modified rolling admissions which to me means they will make a decision when they get around to it. I am just a student; I’m not an insider in the admission office, so don’t rely on what I say here. Too, one admission person will make decision for your friend; there isn’t a committee sitting in a big conference room debating the merits of letting your friend in or not.

Your friend should phone USF admissions and ask if they’ll give a time frame for a decision; too, make sure to tell them she’s already scheduled to take SAT again, and make sure recent semester grades are sent to USF.
