Requirements for audition (Musical Studies)

I’m a sophomore. I’m really interested in pursuing a minor in musical studies with an emphasis on piano performance. I went on the website and it said I would need 2 standard repertoire for my audition. Did they mean I would need to pick two pieces on my own choice? or I had to pick the pieces from the list for performance major?

“Minor in Musical Studies
In addition to the Application for a Minor in Music (see above), a performance audition is required of applicants to this program. Two selections from the standard repertoire of their primary instrument or voice should be prepared for the audition. To schedule an audition or for further information, contact the appropriate music department (e.g. pianists contact the department of keyboard studies, flutists contact the department of winds and percussion, etc.). The minor is not available to music majors.”

wing,
May I suggest calling the Thornton School of Music since you are on campus and ask to speak to a counselor or administrator? (A student may answer the phone). If a person is available ask if there are particular selections they wish you to perform. Here is the number: 213 740 8986. The chairman of the keyboard studies department is Alan Smith.

Do you have a private teacher who can help you prepare for the audition once you have an appointment?

I am also interested in pursuing a minor in piano performance!! I am a freshman…I called the office last month and they told me to pick 2 pieces on my own choice
