Rescinded because of a phone call?

Can / would a college rescind an admission because someone called them up and said something bad about you? Not that you lied on your application or something like that, but just that they didn’t like you, you are irresponsible, or maybe make something up that you’d done?

I’m guessing no, but I just wanted to make sure.

I’m sure they would consider it a crank call because that’s what it is. Don’t lose sleep over it.

I can’t imagine a college would rescind an offer just based on an anonymous phone call. However, depending on what the allegation is, the college may feel it necessary to call your GC to get more info. Let’s say the person accused you of major cheating - if this was true, but your GC didn’t mention it in his rec and you didn’t mention it on your app, if the college spoke directly to the GC, he may feel he has to be honest when questioned directly. It wouldn’t surprise me if colleges get these types of calls all the time - admissions are so competitive that they bring out the worst in people.

nuts…

It depends on who is making the phone call and what they say. If its an anonymous call, it will likely be ignored. If the charge is serious enough, it may prompt an inquiry from the school. If the charge is from a high school teacher or administrator or counselor, its much more likely to be investigated.

If the charge is something minor and too vague and generic, it will be ignored. If its something specific and is complete with corroborating facts and is very serious in nature, you may have a problem.

If you anticipate this phone call, then you may want to address the issue with the person you think is going to make the call and discuss the matter.

If its false, you may need to get an attorney.

They wouldn’t.

that would just be sad
