Research and experiment paper in high school

Hi everyone,
So my friend and I are currently planning a research experiment. He is interested in psychology and I in music, and the experiment has to do with a mixture of the two: the psychological effect of specific musical functions (a unique topic that has not been covered well thus far). We’re both rising seniors (HS class of 2016), and so will be in our senior year next semester. While it will be a difficult time, we were wondering whether performing this experiment (and many more if possible) with around 30 or more people and writing up a paper explaining the experiment and the results would be useful while applying to college (on the resume). We’re both very keen on it, but if it won’t be key in the college application, we’ll do it next semester.
Just to summarize: music+psychology experiment, results and their implications written (published if possible), useful for the college application? I want to study music and my friend is interested in psychology, if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

PS: We’re talking about the higher-end colleges/universities here (HYPSM, WAS)

It definitely will be if you submit it to Intel or some other science competition like that. If you decide to do that, it would probably be helpful to put a more humanitarian spin on the project (i.e. how musical functions could be used to help people with psychological disorders).
