Research at a lab/facility

I have found a former Caltech scientist to work with on my science research project. He doesn’t have a lab anymore, and we need to find one in order to conduct the experiment. Does anyone have any advice on finding a lab or facility at a local university or ANY other place? What’s the best way to approach the people there and tell them about what you need? I’d be willing to pay for the space if I had to. Also, I don’t need any very sophisticated apparatus like a linear accelerator or anything like that. Thanks for your help.

What kind of lab are you looking for? If you are in something like math or theoretical physics, all you need is a closet, basically, and maybe a computer. Maybe you just need a meeting space? This should be easy to get as you will consume no resources. If you are more into bio or something, email all the professors at a local university, explain the situation, talk about who your former caltech scientist is, talk about what you plan to do, and also ask the professor to mentor you if they are willing, so that they will also feel involved.

How did you contact that former Caltech scientist? By connections? Also did you propose an idea for him?

I found the Caltech scientist through my friend’s dad. And yes, I have already proposed an idea to him. My project is on microbiology. I initially emailed like 10 professors and asked 4 their help, but nobody cared to email back. sigh let’s see…
