Research At Emory

Hey! I just had a few questions about research at Emory…
How available are research opportunities (particularly science-related research) for underclassmen, especially freshmen?
What steps would you recommend me to take to get involved in research?

Thanks!

EXTREMELY available. Actually, this was my main motivation for matriculating at Emory. I looked up the labs of a bunch of different professors and e-mailed all of the ones that interested me during the summer before freshman year. By the time I arrived on campus for freshman orientation, I already had multiple interviews scheduled, and I selected a lab and started training shortly thereafter.
Emory has a huge amount of support for undergraduate research: INSPIRE, SIRE, SURE, IRES, etc…

Just e-mail the lab P.Is. If they have any sort of space, or think they may have some, they will at least invite you to discuss the research etc (not a real interview. Just make sure you show interest. Stay attentive and ask relevant questions). Many start their first semester at Emory. It’s not difficult at all to find research.
