Is this possible? I manage to get a professor to help me with some research topics like in May, but in late May, he had to go back to China, so I don’t have a professor nor can I work at a university. I’ve been just reading some of his papers by myself at home, but I don’t think I can do that type of project by myself. I am thinking about doing another type of research project by myself, something that I’ve always been interested in. Has anybody done this before, and if they did, what did they use for resources? Just the computer + books? What was the topic? I have a topic in mind and I think I can get some data just from websites, but I doubt I will get the data that I can get at a unversity.

What research topics were you (considering) doing with this professor?

Like, do you mean that your research would culminate in a research paper (e.g. honors theses that many college seniors do)?
I mean, you could always write a research paper on your own and send it in to the Concord Review or something I guess.

Nvm, I called like 3 departments and I got a professor.

However, that actually leads me to another question. I don’t understand what a research paper is supposed to look like for a high school competition.

I’ve seen tons of research papers online, but those seem far more advanced than what a high school student could do. I’ve seen the criteria, but it never gave any examples of research papers. If you just collect data, but find nothing new, are you allowed to write a paper for that?

Hey HiPeople,
If you collect data and find nothing new, you’re allowed to of course write a paper about it, but obviously it would not do very well. I suggest following a previous research paper and simply adding something new so it does not look like you’re just doing a “literature review”
good luck!
