I have been invited to participate in a research cluster with faculty members in my area of interest.

Can/should I include this on my app if/when? I apply to grad school. Is this just brownie points or is this on par with publishing?

publishing is another level up and not necessarily expected for undergrad researchers. Working with faculty in a research situation is a definite plus and is quite legitimate to mention as a valid demonstration that you’re exploring if research is a career option for you.

To say what ParAlum has, but in a different way: research is the most important component of any graduate school application. The more you can get, the stronger your application. Since this cluster works on your area of interest, it will be invaluable to your education, even if you decide later not to attend graduate school.
