Research in UCI (CHP and School-Specific Honors)

For CHP, you have to do a minimum of 2 quarters of research with a faculty member, and for the ICS school’s honors program, you do 2 years of research with a faculty member.

So, are those two separate things, or, if you’re part of both, you only do one? Here’s what the handbook says: CHP students are strongly encouraged to consider completing the appropriate upper-division honors program in their school/major as well as the CHP. When you submit a copy of the final, approved thesis from a school/major-specific honors program, it will automatically be accepted as meeting the research/thesis requirements for the CHP.

If I understand correctly, that means that they are two separate things, BUT, the CHP requirement could be fulfilled through the school-specific honors program (frowned upon though).

Just wanted to make sure that’s correct.

Thanks! :]
