I want to do research on actual medical based stuff, such as diabetes or some type of cancer. However, it seems there arent any professors from my school who does medical research…Many of them do cell and molecular bio research but not on diseases. Then where can I find people who do medical research?

Cell bio, molec bio, and chemistry research can often be very early-stage “disease” research. For example, I wrote my Honors thesis about elucidating the structure formed when a certain carcinogenic molecule attaches to DNA. This is relevant to cancer research because the tumorigenic strength of the carcinogen and related chemicals is well-studied and documented, but it isn’t clear why some of these chemicals are more carcinogenic than others. My lab was convinced that it was an issue of molecular structure and stereochemistry.

I don’t know where I’m going with this story, but don’t just dismiss “cell and molecular bio research” as being irrelevant to “medical research.” The distinctions are less broad that you think.

look to see if there’s a med school nearby…though that’s kind of an obvious suggestion.
