Research over the summer

I’m doing research with a university professor over the summer. However, I know that research professors are often very busy; in fact, I get to work with his post-doc because the actual professor has to write grants, etc. I worry that he won’t get to know me very well, and I really want to get a paper published involving my research since I really enjoy the subject area. What do you think I should do? Any advice on how to get a research professor to agree to let you publish a paper? The project I’m working on will be something he assigns me, not something I get to choose.

It doesn’t work that way. You don’t persuade a professor to let you get published. If the paper is submitted with you in the byline, then that’s that; otherwise, oh well.

Anyone else?

If you make some important discovery, then of course he will publish it. So just try your best and hopefully it’ll work out.
