any news from NY??? (anyone applying from there, accepted/rejected there???)

Yeah…some kid my friend knows whose supposedly a super genius got in.

I really want to know where do you get all this info from

"
Essays: 40% presentation (demonstration of interest and skill), 40% content (solid evidence backing up the claims, id est past research, outstanding recognitions/honors/awards)
Recommendations: 10%
Applicant demographic: 5%
Everything else: 5%
"

I’d say this is quite reflective of the issue. Besides essay (which plays a large part), I suspect my recommendations are of questionable quality, as one of the two teachers I chose finished it in < 30 min and another waited until it is almost late. Perhaps I should have asked the ARML coach to write rather than this math teacher.

P.S.: just for record, this is from a (sub-par level) mopper last year.

Recommendations and Essays are key things to have.
Show who you are in your essays, I did not put a list of accomplishments in my essays, but rather what I like to do, science and non science stuff, the essays were more describing me as a person and my views on scientific research, rather than my medals and awards.

Anyone here up for making this facebook group? “RSI 2010 proud rejects” or something similar to this…

So, here’s some different kinda stats:
From this CC thread:
Accepted:8 (+ 4 friends or frens of friends)= 12
Rejected: 18
Total: 30
Still waiting 15? including me!

Signed letters of acceptance are due back by March 16th, so I would guess that all of the letters will be received really soon :]

@hyposinner: what, a sub-par mopper? o.o do you mean… a red mopper? or an actual subpar mopper

eeeek. i always get stuff 2-3 weeks after postmarked (i’m not in the States). anyone not get their letter yet? i wanna email… :S

got alternate!

dang! people, please reject RSI :)

how many people are alternates??? how many alternates got in in past years?? (actually, dont’ answer that, that’ll get my hopes down LOL)

to whoever was wondering about NY - rejected
i got mine on tuesday so my guess is if you’re in NY and haven’t gotten your letter, you’re in

NJ still waiting…patiently… for MIA envelope.

I saw 15 alternates somewhere, but I don’t recall how legit the source was.

@StressedoutNOT: it’s strange that you haven’t gotten your envelope yet…mine was postmarked 3/5 and I got mine on 3/8. I live in Morris County (northern NJ).

Im an alternate as well. I called and there are MANY alternates, so make other plans guys.

^ HOW MANY ALTERNATES? more than 20? D=.

oh dear, i guess i’m content enough with being an alternate… SO CLOSE!!

Sorry but I doubt that alternates have much of a chance. I got admitted and sent my acceptance right away. Who would take the time to do the entire application if they didn’t really want to go?

Alternates still have chances. I know one person who was accepted into both RSI and TASP and he chose TASP.
