<p>Homework is what you do for a course, research is usually for a thesis or a dissertation or a job. Research is the process of generating new knowledge. In college you usually don’t get homework assignments that ask you to find the answer to a question that no one has been able to answer before.</p>
<p>Unless we are talking about a “research paper”, which is just a special type of homework assignment. When you write a research paper, you primarily use sources outside of the regular reading list of the course, while most other papers draw primarily from the reading list.</p>
