Research vs Project Teams

Hey, I’m really excited to be attending the college of engineering this upcoming fall, but i was wondering:

 1. is it humanly possible to balance research with a project team while doing AEP?
 2. if not, which is more popular among engineers?
 3. i know it’s possible to get course credits by doing certain project teams, is that possible too if you do research?

Depends on the specimen. It’s up for you to decide for yourself. Kinda hard to tell before your first semester experience though. Since research is tougher to get than a project team (assuming you don’t have prior research exp) you might want to start with a project team in your first semester

Why is popularity relevant to your decision? I have never met a student (freshmen excluded) who really wants to do research but cant find a prof. I have met students who want to do project teams but are rejected.

Yes you can get credits for both project teams and research. However, what those credits can count for may or may not help you. You would have to discuss with the department for details if you want to plan ahead.

Definitely possible although it’ll depend on your course load.

Both are terrific EC activities. For research, you’ll most likely work closely with a grad student on a academic / scientific research project. For project teams, you’ll work on engineering design with a team. Both are good choices, although I wouldn’t recommend doing both simultaneously. Research is great for grad school / academia while project team is great for industry after graduation.

Yes, definitely.

I think project teams are, but there are tons of engineers who do either.

Yes.
