What type of research have you done? Scientific? Related to Humanities? Why did you choose that particular topic/line of study?

Il start it off: Research on TCKs and if they are moving towards Global Citizenship. 500 surveys from TCKs in international schools around the world, 100 interviews with TCKs from int’l schools in Korea.

I chose it because: I dont have the technical background to do some stunning research on a scientific topic, so I chose something that I myself am a part of (being a TCK). It requires less or no technical training/new stuff to learn (ie. higher levels of math, physics, chem, bio etc.) except for some knowledge in Sociology.

MIT !! wow…nice job irock1ce…there’s this girl from my school w. a 1370 who got into MIT. Low GPA etc except both her grandparents work there…so far thats the only exciting results from my school. how abt urs?

would you people rather do research in science or humanities?

I did research on what type of bacteria was in my school cafeteria food.
I found intestinal bacteria(specifically shigella, and other stuff). When I tried to investigate further the school shut down my project(I got school funding and use of the lab). So, I sent my results to the health department and they had to initiate a formal inquiry.Apparently it turns out that a cafeteria lady didnt wash her hands well after defecating and so shigella got into the food. I also tested other establishments(surprisingly enough, mcdonalds was the cleanest)

now, I’m doing cancer research at ucla. Its great, I’m working with a grad student who has total control of the lab during the times that I’m there. We’ll do fun stuff like doing pcr amplification on the dna extracted from cells cultured from the doorknob.

ew…thats gross. In m y old school (in another city in korea) every 2 weeks there was a report of spiders in the food. seriously nasty…That is some real world application research uv done man. nice job! got accepted anywhere as yet?

that lady was gross but I’m just happy that I brought my own lunch
when I told my friend that she might have eaten that ladies ****, she ran to the bathroom

I got accepted to my safeties only so far

Tulane(w/ 23000 merit, though that may rise since I wasnt considered for need based money, just merit money so far)
UCSB (with 11000 and honors program)
UCSD(with 11000)

I, like everybody else on this board am crossing my fingers and waiting for 3/31

My TCK daughter does research in nanoscale biosynthesis. We are fortunate to live close to a major university, which allows her to do the research.

callthecops: I’d be interested in the findings of your research.

Science research - Atmospheric Chemical Instabilities (basically randomly discovering exotic behaviors in many relatively simply tropospheric chemical models…and TRYING to apply it to global warming, increase in pollutant emissions etc), last year I was at ISEF and I will be there this year…Anyone here going to ISEF??
