I have the opportunity to possibly do research at either Temple University, or Wistar (based in Philadelpha). Do colleges have a preference for research either at a university or with a private business? How much weight is put on whichever one they prefer?
If your goal is to obtain some scholastic research experience, I recommend that you do so at a university than a private business. With that said, IMO the primary yardstick of your judgement should be your own preference, not how your activity will look in the eyes of admissions officers. If the activity that you will be assigned at a private business seems more fruitful and interesting, by all means, take that spot. While you should be mindful of college admissions, I personally do not think that its agenda should shadow your overall high school academic experience.
