<p>A great achievement by a Florida State faculty member. It was a person like this who inspired my daughter to study biochemistry at FSU.</p>

<p>Thanks so much for posting parent2noles! I am currently in the process of trying to convince my daughter that it is “ok” and perfectly acceptable to stay in state for undergraduate and that many excellent programs can be found here in FL. She is trying to decide between physics/astrophysics,aero or astronautical engineering or possibly CS. I have seen your posts about the C-SAIT and ironically my kid is also interested in that area of computer science. One of the founders of the program at FSU, Alan Yasinsac, is now the Dean at University of South Alabama and they have a brand new School of Computing. My daughter won an award and will be meeting him this Saturday but it may be hard for him to convince her about the merits of FSU now that he is at USA!</p>

<p>Forgot to ask: do you know anything about the Living Learning center at FSU for Women in Math, Science and Engineering ( WIMSE) at Cawthon Hall with Faculty adviser Dr. Susan Blessing?</p>

<p>I need to check and see if my D1 was in WIMSE. She was not in Cawthon as a freshman as she elected the then Honors dorm (Reynolds). I recall it was an option for her, but her mentors were faculty members in Chemistry and Biochemistry and later the med school. One female biochemist especially attracted her to Florida State; notable to us due to the obvious difficulty of the field. One day we are wondering what she’ll study and then its biochemistry and medicine.</p>

<p>I would recommend any program which puts a student in a solid working relationship with a faculty member - especially women in STEM.</p>
