My S will be a freshman this Fall and we received a mailing from his college for linens and bedding for his dorm from Residence Hall Linens. The packages seems pretty good. I am sure I could go out to Target, BBB, or Kohl’s and get it there too, but it may be just as easy to get all at one place and be done. (also my son likes the idea of a very plain color comforter and sheets) I have read mixed reviews about the quailty of their RHL’s stuff, but I am hearing now that it is much better and you can upgrade the sheets and they also have a money back guarantee until graduation. Did anyone order from them this year and what was your experience with them? Is it worth it. Thanks for the help.

I have not ordered from the residence hall linens but several friends have had children who did. The quality was OK but not great. I don’t remember the cost of their packages but you might find better quality from The Company Store. Their package (down or poly fill) runs about $140.00

[College Bound: XL Twin Dorm Bedding | The Company Store](http://www.thecompanystore.com/College-Bound/cs-college-bound,default,sc.html)

ok. Be careful cause most dorms they keep so hot its not funny. So most college dudes just have a sheet but anything super warm might not be good. Especially if they have their girlfriend sleeping overnight.Someone here said flannel blankets are the best and i got one and it is super soft and i dont like my down blanket anymore cause the flannel one is so soft and it is a light green. I think it came from costco.

and i didnt know colleges have like a maid department where they wash your clothes and stuff. Thats cool. I guess its more like a hotel then i thout.

The quality and price was not as good as BB&B or Target or Penney’s. We got those before we knew you could get the XL in other places. Once we knew other places carried XL we never ordered from there again (have had 4 in college so last ones benefited form learning curve).

Buy your own. The prices will be less and the quality better. The only students I know who have used this service with satisfaction are some friends who live abroad and were not traveling to the states with their kids when college began. They just wanted something to be there for the students when they arrived. I will add, in all cases, these kids bought some of their own here after their freshman year.

Years ago it was hard to find XL sheets. That is no longer the case and they are now widely available at all the same places you would normally get your linens. Kohls, Target and BB&B are good choices. No need to get extra long comforters, regular twin size will work fine. I think it’s quite deceiving to get something in the mail purporting to be from my child’s college and then find that it’s a company advertising rip-off linens.

We got the brochure a few weeks ago and my husband and I chuckled over the picture of a pile of six towels along with other assorted items. Six towels?? My poor #3 will be getting his (college grad) brothers sheets and I’m stealing some older towels from our linen closet. If something is going to be lost, I would rather it be the old stuff.

Piggy backing on Kathie’s post…our kids also did their “college linen shopping” in our linen closet…first. They took the OLD stuff and any new stuff was bought for us…the grown ups. The towels they took were the oldest we had…and the thinnest…they dry faster than thick plush towels (less chance for mildew that way). And the towels went on a one way trip to college…and then to the dumpster at the end of the year. We had PLENTY of old towels to keep replenishing the supply.

And…two towels were plenty. Where would the student even STORE six in a college dorm?

I second and third the above posts. The RHL are of poor quality and pill quickly. The company store has an excellent selection (and so does target and BBandB). Ditto on the thinner towels. DD hated the high quality towels I originally got her because they took too long to dry. Went to costco and bought the cheap package of towels…so much better. They dry adequately and quickly and now four years later, we use them for rags in the house (its all good). Two towels of each is fine (two bath, two hand, two to four washclothes…girls you know).

Freshman year DD loved the T shirt sheets, after freshman year she preferred soft cotton (which BBandB has in extra long too). We got her a Queen comforter though (NOT TWINXL) so it could drap over the entire bed (even when it was raised a foot higher) and hide the crap underneath it…worked perfectly!!! The queen comfortor length is the same as the twin XL btw.

Marshall’s, TJMaxx and Target set up special college dorm sections-for all the things you can possibly stuff into a dorm room in late June, early July
All your twin XL sheets, foam mattress toppers, duvets, and comforters in fresh colors
Shop early for best selections

And remember…you can order it all at your local BB and B store for pick up at a BB and B NEAR your child’s college campus. OR YOU can pay to have it shipped there.

I just got a mailing from my D’s college about this. We thought about ordering, but then I remembered the resource of CC. Thanks so much everyone!

JCPenney on line is a great source of xl twin sheets. Lots of variety.

We found what S wanted at Target. The prices were great, the quality was great, and I liked the simplicity of buying in person, taking it home to check it out, and then returning to the store directly if something was not as we expected. (everything was good, no returns.) We also sent only a few towels and they were the old ones from home.

We aren’t home during the day so I personally don’t order much of anything that will be delivered.

We did the residence hall linens last year for S, just the bedding. I had brought him around to a few stores and he didn’t see anything he liked. The Company Store stuff looked nice but seemed pricey.

He opted for the 300tc cotton.

The towels I got elsewhere, there are so many places that that have sales on good quality towels.

I ordered from them this year for my son, who was an entering freshman, and I’m very sorry I did. I ordered a package a few days later than the recommended deadline, but the young man on the phone said there shouldn’t be a problem with delivery. I figured that even if it all arrived a couple of days late, we could make do until delivery. But THEY NEVER SENT IT! It turns out the sheet pattern we ordered was on back order, and they neither called nor e-mailed to let us know. When I called to complain, the person on the phone was rude, and basically said it was my fault for not ordering earlier.
As it turns out, I went to Target and saved money by buying everything we need there.
But here’s the kicker – I get promotional e-mails about once a week from them, and there is no opt-out on the e-mails. I just received an e-mail “confirming” an order and when I called to say I hadn’t ordered, the woman told me it was a mistake – it went to anyone who had ever ordered from them. She agreed to take me off the e-mail list, but put me on hold, and then never came back.
This place has terrible customer service, and seems to be run by total amateurs.

RHL made this task very easy. They may not have the lowest prices or highest quality but they were very easy to deal with. With were unfamiliar with the XL length required going in so we knew these would work and they did. Those of you who knew more about this realized you had plenty of options. My S was also fine with the colors, packages and options. When we set up his room with him, my wife seemed satisfied. All things considered, we are satisfied with our RHL purchase.

I liked the idea of the “until you graduate” guarantee. Babyfrog did a mishmash of shopping to get the look she wanted – I think her comforter was from BB&B, her towels from Target, and we did order her sheets from RHL. Now, we’re only a month into school, but they seem to be fine college kid sheets.

My daughter didn’t want to do it the easy way – she had to see what was available in every single store in town and then go back out and buy what she liked best. But her roommate bought bedding through RHL and is happy with it.

I posted on the first page of this thread (a while ago). I believe students can get better qualify, longer lasting, more choice variety linens at stores like BBB, Target, and mail order Company Store, LLBean etc.

That being said…for some students this IS the easiest solution. I know that the parents of the students I know who used RHLs would gladly have paid a slightly higher price for a better quality linen. They used RHLs for the convenience, not the quality of their products.

Did anybody see the piece on CNN (?) last night about how all this stuff has been made in China and now that that fact has been brought to light at SMU (?) they are switching to American made goods that are cheaper and of better quality?
