Residence Hall Theme programs

So my hall this year is home to the Health Science theme, the catch is that I’m an economics major with no real academic interest in any health science (except maybe exercise biology/science). Do you think I’ll find myself out of place living with others who are most likely related academically through their majors?

How do they do these themes? Is it just supposed to be students in that major in the hall, or do they just educate students about a certain major/area of study with the theme? (My hall does themes, but it’s usually stuff like “movies” and “pirates” for fun.)

If it’s just people in the major… well, the only issue it should have is that you’ll have to look around for some other people to study with in some classes. If it’s just to educate you, there’s no issue. I’m sure at least one other person isn’t a health science person or just doesn’t have any interest in it. Besides, many students rarely stay in their dorms; I know I’m just in mine to study sometimes and to sleep. I’m pretty sure things will be fine.

Probably not hugely, maybe a little. But your major isn’t everything, even in college. I’m sure you’ll still make friends. Even health science folks play video games and go out for pizza. I’m sure you’ll find common ground.

Ya, I’m not overly worried about because I realize that there are plenty of options outside of my RH to meet people who have similar interests in academics, etc.

The hall happens to be an ATP (Academic Theme Program) which is optional to participate in, but it just allows you to participate in a seminar that gives information about getting into medical school and other things related to the health sciences.

I figure if they put an economics major in the hall, then there will probably be others who aren’t in health science majors.

I mean, how boring would college life be if you only hung out with econ majors?
