What specialty? GL to her.
Diag Radiology
@RiceBits good luck to your DD! This whole signal thing is new since our DD applied to residencies that started in 2020.
Looking forward to hearing where she lands!
Not sure why they still havent merged. I believe Anesthesiology, Psychiatry, Opthalmology have all been offering a prelim year within their programs.
Right - DD was also saying the same. Having a separate intern year adds more hassle - relocation to another city after intern year etc.
Sometimes. Sometimes they continue in the same program.
All PGY2 programs (which include ophthalmology, dermatology, anesthesiology, radiology, neurology, PM&R, radiation oncology) require a IM PGY1. Urology and orthopedics specifically require one year of preliminary general surgery.
The Intern year for PGY2 specialties can either a transitional year or preliminary year. (Transitional programs are often considered “cushier” than prelims.)
Some PGY2 specialties offer a prelim year at the same hospital as the PGY2 specialty. This is called an integrated program. Most PGY2 residencies do not offer an integrated program. It’s strictly a hospital/program dependent decision since it requires different funding model and it requires IM department big enough that it can accommodate having “extra” IM interns who will not continue on in the IM program.
DS is done with interviews and submitted rank list. He hit fewer interviews than expected. It appears programs are doing fewer interviews due to signaling. Being a MD MBA candidate also may be a factor.
for your son.
Are you saying he applied only for residency programs offering an MBA as part of the residency?
Can you please elaborate your DS journey? Mine is in similar path are you saying MBA had a negative impact?
No, he is doing MD/MBA and indicated non-research interests.
Seems like some may like prefer applicants are more interested in traditional research.
So this is what he will have at medical school graduation?
You say he didn’t get as many interviews as he would have liked. But perhaps he got the one(s) that mattered.
Yes, he will be get two degrees. He did get very good ones with some connections (home school, UG school, home state) but he felt double digits would have been but ended up with single digit. Competitive surgical speciality.
