Residency

I have noticed my first choice school (Vanderbilt) currently has only 2 students from my state. Will this work in my favor or against me in the admissions process? I’m kind of concerned about if I’ll be accepted or not…

In addition, I know admission is very dependent on standardized test scores, extracurriculars, recommendations, and essays. Since I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet, I can’t say if my scores will be on track for admission, but according to the Plan test (it’s like a pre-ACT) I’ll get around 30-32. I have been studying so I can hopefully get a little bit better score, though. I have research experience at my state university (I’m planning to go into science, so this is relevant) and hope to get an internship of some sort next summer (I’m currently a junior). I will have a great recommendation from the professor overseeing my work from this summer, and possibly one from wherever I intern this summer. I have a few extracurriculars that I do well in; I have placed 2nd at state competitions multiple times and hope to recieve first this year in two different clubs/ organizations since I consistently take first in local and regional events. I also hold leadership positions in both of my main 2 extracurriculars: reporter and president. I’m assuming my essays will be good, but nothing spectacular. I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I volunteer as part of National Honor Society and also on my own. Also, I am currently a freshman mentor at my school.

I know this isn’t much information, but any guesses as to if I’ll be accepted? Or at least if I’m sort of on the right track? Any reassurance or criticism would be helpful. Honesty is always good, even if it is a horrible truth.
