Hey guys! I am in incoming freshman for the 2012-2013 school year, and I just had a few questions about residency. I was offered Hitch Suites as my area of living, honestly I prefer the spaciousness and my big thing is bathroom. I am germaphobic especially when it comes to bathrooms.

My question is, I realize that Hitch Suits is more secluded since its apartment style living. So is it safe to assume that making friends and socializing would done through classes, extracurricular activities, and clubs/organizations?

I am moving to California from Texas, and am a Theat Design/Production Major.

Yeah, the primary will be through your classes and student groups. Be sure to make some friends during welcome week and go to the welcome activities. From what I can tell, theater is a much more social department than engineering so I hope people will actually talk and socialize around classes.

On a random note, I think I met your mom at the out of state admit weekend - how many incoming theater majors from Texas can there be at UCLA?

You would be surprised! On the UCLA welcome app, I met a girl from Dallas, Texas who was going to be a theatre major, but she is going into the acting specialization. However if you did meet my mom, than it really is a small world.

Also thank you for answering my question, I’ll keep in mind what I should do.

You’ll be fine. Some of the most friendly people on campus are in the Theater Department, plenty of friends to make.
