Residents keep messing with me?

Hey everyone,

So I’m a RA at my college. One of my residents keep messing with me like ripping off my door decs or writing awful comments on my board.

I already know who it is on the floor. Many times he wrote really bad comments on the quotes I put on my board. This really annoys me.

What do you think I should do?

What would you tell one of your residents who had an issue like this? Granted, your case is more serious, since this kid is flouting authority, in addition to being a pest.

Don’t you have a housing office supervisor that you report to? This is someone bent on personally “attacking” you, your boards and messages.

I think you need to “talk” to him with someone else present in the room.

Its time to go to whoever supervises you. I am betting that what this student is doing can be grounds for disciplinary action and the culprit needs to know it. You can’t do your job properly if a student is flouting your authority.

Not sure what policies or training you’ve received about dealing with “bad behavior”, but in the absence of any specific policies, I’d suggest just talking with the person you think is doing this to:

  1. Be sure who you think is doing is actually the culprit
  2. Tell them that while he/she may think it is funny, it is hurting your authority and reputation and cannot go on
  3. Let them know that if it doesn't stop, you'll need to take more formal action
