My hard floors (fake wood) are sticky. I think I’ve been using the wrong cleaner. What is a good cleaner that doesn’t leave a sticky residue? I also prefer one that doesn’t have a strong chemical scent. My husband can’t stand the smell of Pine Sol and Fabuloso…
I use Bona on my hardwoods.
Murphy’s oil- use half as much as recommended and warm water.
I use Bona as well. I have their microfiber mop/sprayer and it is so much easier than wringing out a traditional mop. Pet safe and no residue or scent left behind. It was recommended to me by the company that refinished our floors several years ago.
Bona
We use either Bona or another called Bruce.
Even fake wood floors don’t really need much cleaner, just try something like mostly water, a little rubbing alcohol (10% maybe) and a tiny tiny squeeze of dawn or similar. Use a microfiber cloth and only minimally damp the mop . I pay for Bona for real wood but wouldn’t bother for fake. otherwise try 70/30 water/vinegar and again a tiny bit of dawn. Or diluted Windex works quite nicely on say finished engineered dark colors.
Am I the only one who uses a swiffer to clean my wood floor. I use both the dry and wet ones depending upon how bad it is.
@kiddie I use a swiffer too, but the branded cleaner does leave it a little sticky for me.
Bona here too. I’ve used it on both real and fake wood floors.
Another vote for Bona. If you have a residue you need to remove you might want to try a first round of white vinegar and warm water . I’d start with a 1 to 3 mixture of vinegar to water. Once the residue is gone use the Bona.
Swiffer makes a wood floor cleaner…but I think it leaves a film.
I like Bona a lot better and it’s not that much more costly.
Only Bona!
I have tile, but I like my steam mop which uses only water.
Do you mean “fake” as in laminate, or as in engineered floorboards with a real wood veneer on plywood? I have the latter, and I use the Mr. Clean magic eraser mop, which contains no cleaner, and it’s incredible how much dirt it gets up. It doesn’t need a ton of water, but since I don’t like to have any water sitting on top of wood, I dry the floor as I go with rags. This is every few months or so in high traffic areas and maybe once or twice a year in low traffic areas. Weekly, just vacuuming and dry Swiffer.
Bona, especially for dogs. No streaks or residue, but check your warranty because some have specific cleaning requirements to maintain warranty coverage.
Mostly, we just run our Roomba, robotic vacuum. Before we got it, we used a dust mop and sometimes a wet mop with just water.
We have use Bona from time to time. We have never had residue issues. We have hardwood and sheet vinyl floors.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try bona and maybe some vacuuming!
Bona is pretty inexpensive at Home Depot and similar stores. Can use it with the lightweight applicator that is sold right next to it with the fabric that can be washing in washing machine and then tossed in dryer.
And bona from costco is diluted 2:1, i didn’t realize that until I bought a bottle from Costco. The professional strength is 7:1.
