Resigning from 4 year Army ROTC scholarship

I just started my freshman year with 4 year full ride Army ROTC scholarship. I didn’t pass my physical test yet so I’m not contracted so far. To be honest I don’t like the ROTC program at my college and I started seriously thinking of dropping off from the scholarship. With that I have a few questions:
1. Can I do it anytime and how
2. Do I have any obligations after quitting /I didin’t contract yet/
3. Could I continue the program til the end of the semester and than drop off ROTC
4. Is it true that is possible to stay in the program for the freshman year after passing PT and contracting and use the scholarship for 1 year and than quit before the second year starts without paying money back

Thanks for all answers

you will have to speak with ROTC and financial aid at your school.

Will you still be able to afford your school without the scholarship?

Yes. Like sybbie said. You need to talk to the ROTC detachment.

Have you signed a contract? Have they paid anything? You could also look into dropping the scholarship and monthly stipend and just be a non-contract student (or whatever it is called). I think you can be a non-contract student for 2 years.

But you need to really think about things. Why did you apply for an Army ROTC scholarship in the first place? What has changed? Is the extra time commitment from Army ROTC too much? You decided that you really don’t want to be a commissioned officer in the US Army? Or don’t want to be in the military at all? Or decided that the oath of office is too much "… solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. "

The military is not for everyone.

Good Luck.

There is another website forum separate from College Confidential for service Academy that has ROTC subforum which you may find helpful

If you didn’t pass your physical, can you still be in the program? A good friend of my son’s didn’t pass the color blindness test and he was cut from the ROTC consideration.

The main issue is that you will lose your scholarship, which presumably was a big reason for choosing your university - although hopefully there were many other reasons for that choice.
Can you retake the physical?
Or would you rather not?
