Alright, so two of my best friends called for their AP scores, but for some strange reason (probably because they’re very competitive with each other), they are arguing whose scores look better. They don’t even go to my high school, so I don’t really have too much say.

Here’s how they did:

Friend 1:

Biology: 5 (junior class)
US History: 5 (junior class)

Friend 2:

US History: 4 (junior class)
Calc AB: 5 (senior class - only calc offerred at their school)
English Language: 5 (did not take the class; self-study)
Physics: Did not take exam because class was not satisfactory; nobody in the class took the exam. (senior class)

Their Arguments:

Friend 1 is saying she did better because she got 5s on both exams she took. Friend 2 is saying her scores will look better to colleges because she took 3 exams and did well on the three of them, even though she got one 4. Friend 1 is also saying Friend 2 will not look good because she didn’t take physics.

My Opinion:

Friend 2 looks a bit better because she self-studied an exam and did well. Also, did well on her other two exams, and she was in senior classes.

Haha this isn’t nearly as severe of an argument as some may think; it isn’t even an argument, really. It’s just another reflection of the competitive drive between my two friends. They’ve known each other and been good friends since a very early age, this is just another form of that. They aren’t fighting or not speaking to each other because of it; it’s just a mild dispute between them.

Thanks for all the help! And to fairy_dreams, if you had an AP Physics class in which the new teacher was so bad that when the students took a practice test each student scored a 1 with one student scoring a 2, which he admitted was luck, not taking the exam makes sense.

I would maybe say Friend 2, but first one question: are these friends in the same grade? Because if Friend 1 was a senior this last year and only took those 2 APs junior year when her school clearly offers more APs than that, then Friend 2 looks better because she took more advantage of what their school had to offer. If Friend 1 is a senior this year, however, and she plans to take more APs this year, then it may be more up in the air.

Both Friend 1 and Friend 2 are rising seniors next year. Friend 1 took the APs that most juniors who are academically motivated at their school take; Friend 2 was the only one with her schedule. She was the only junior in 3 AP classes and the only junior to self-study an AP. They are both taking more AP courses next year. Friend 1 is taking 3, Friend 2 is taking 4 (Friend 2 is the only one in her class taking 4).

friend 2 definitely. she took 3 APs and did well on all of them. (yes a 4 on AP US is still good). I mean i don’t even think friend one has an argument. She got 2 5s. Friend 2 got 2 5s and a 4. Unless a 4 was being considered negative, of course friend 2’s is more impressive. Also, friend 2 has AP physics on her transcript which is SO much more important to colleges than whether or not she took the exam.
