"Resolved"- a show about debate teams

I’m a parent. I just saw this show called “Resolved” about debate teams ( or at least A debate team).

Never had this (that I knew of) when I was in school. Anybody see this? Any thoughts?

Hah i saw this last night on demand. i liked it. it kinda got me thinking about joining/creating a debate team.

I’ve been wanting to see this movie, but it’s not out on DVD. I can never find it on tv either…

shrinkrap, were you surprised by the debaters spreading in the documentary? The debating style is very different than that in the Great Debaters.

I haven’t seen this one, but ‘Rocket Science’ was amazing and quirky.

Is spreading the fast talking? If so, yes. It was just the whole idea of the debate world. My son has been into competative soccer for years, so I know “kids like that”, but I have never met kids like the ones on that show…except here on CC…“Great Debaters” is that movie? Nevermind…just looked it up. I haven’t seen it.

haha, i ordered it on demand too. it was really interesting. i’m not really a fan of spreading debate but it’s very interesting to watch. although it took me a while to get my ears to understand what they were saying.

I don’t know the full plot of the story, but not all debaters (and leagues) like debating that style. I personally don’t like spreading. Talking fast is fine (I usually talk fast in my rounds), but speeding up to the point you’re incomprehensible just makes the round counterproductive to the educational goals of competitive debate.

But debate now involves massive amounts of research and very quick thinking. You still make the round what you want it to be, though.
