We are heading off to Central America for a vacation in a couple of weeks, and I just now realized that the rooms that I thought I had fully paid for are in fact not fully paid for. The resort SAID on their website that they were booking my card for the full amount (and had a screen I printed and emailed a receipt for the full amount). Found out this week that they only put a deposit on my card, and didn’t tell me. I hadn’t noticed the discrepancy on my credit card statement, and thought that more of this vacation is paid for than really is…
Turns out that while it looks like they are automatically handling your payment through the website, they actually are just running the transaction manually at the resort. And they run it for the smaller amount, and don’t bother to send an updated receipt or notification to the customer.
Don’t get me wrong… we have rooms. I just am annoyed that they couldn’t communicate and provide a receipt for what they actually charged for back in May when we booked. Also that they try to make it look like they are taking your payment on a secure payment system when they aren’t… I only figured it out when I contacted them to ask them to provide transportation to and from the airport, and they wanted pre-payment for it. No problem… (although when I asked to pay with Paypal, they said no “because it costs money” – well… running a business with a secure payment process for credit cards does indeed cost money…). They sent a receipt, and I noticed that they showed the rooms not paid for. I had the receipt saying I had paid… but it turned out I hadn’t.
Not getting off to the best start in my book…
