I’m in summer vacation before heading toad college in fall. Since graduating, I have lived quite a relaxed life, maybe too relaxed. I don’t think I have picked up a book since or have engaged myself intellectually in any manner. I realize summer is time to rest, but am also feeling a bit guilty, as I am accustomed to living a busy life during HS.

What I’m worried is if too much rest will make transition to college harder. Is rest = rust?

Everyone’s wheels are going to need a bit of grease the first week or two of school. Maybe get a part-time job to earn some spending money for the school year and do some reading during your relaxation time.

I’d say self-study and trying to prep for classes is just a better way to burn yourself out.

Agreed. Give yourself a bit of a break. You may forget random facts, but you’re not going to be any less smart unless you really vegetate all summer.

You’ve got to take some time to decompress and relax, especially right after school lets out. Do some light pleasure reading if it suits you, but this may well be the last summer you ever really have ‘off’ so enjoy it while you can.
