Restaurant for dinner near Logan Airport/Boston?

Hi:

I’m looking for a nice, casual, preferably inexpensive restaurant for dinner near Logan Airport in Boston. I’m picking up relatives at dinnertime and want to relax & eat to let some of the traffic dissipate before heading back home. Probably something all American ish…although open to anything. Thanks!

Try Legal Seafoods Harborside. spectacular view of the waterfront, dependably good and impeccably fresh seafood. In the downstairs (casual) restaurant you can pay 30 dollars for a lobster, 15 ish for a lobster roll, a little over ten bucks (I think) for a terrific bowl of chowder and a salad. Freshly baked warm rolls and butter. Wine list is quite good, beer too. View is priceless. It can get crowded at dinner time so if you know when you’re likely to land think about making a reservation.

Of course, I forgot about Legal Seafoods. Where is it in relation to the airport? Good idea to make a reservation, wherever we end up.

Legal Harborside is great and an entity on its own outside of Legal Seafood with its own menus. Each floor has a different menu, getting fancier as it goes up, and the third floor is a roof deck with cocktails and sushi. It’s all delicious but check the individual menus before making reservations. It’s in the Fort Point/Waterfront area directly across the water from the airport.

East Boston right by the airport has some of the best authentic Mexican in the city - I think Angela’s is the most popular. Going back to Fort Point, I’d also try Blue Dragon (Ming Tsai), Tavern Road, Barbara Lynch’s Sportello.

If we went to Legal Seafood, where do we park? Is there a parking lot available or do we pay for a garage? I looked briefly at the website. Yes, first floor most reasonably priced…I’ll look at the other suggestions, thank you. I’m actually trying to find a restaurant with parking (free) on the grounds and menu items between 10/12 up to 20.

eireann: what can you tell me about the restaurants you suggested? Thanks! :)

Legal has valet parking and lots and some metered parking nearby. You won’t find free parking easily, but it’s definitely cheaper at night. There are several garages in the area also.

Angela’s is right in East Boston, and it’s supposed to be the best Mexican around. I’ve eaten there and it is pretty good.

Tavern Road is newish, kind of trendy American.

Sportello is Italian, and it’s one of the more casual restaurants from Barbara Lynch (one of the most well-known Boston Chefs).

Blue Dragon is Ming Tsai’s new restaurant, Asian, good salads and banh mi sandwiches and noodles.

Oops. I better try this again. I just looked at the Blue Dragon and Sportello websites. These are way too fancy for this particular occasion.

I’m looking for VERY casual and inexpensive. I saw something about Jerry Remy Bar & Grill? Anyone know anything about that?

I’m looking more for Sports Pub type food, relaxing atmosphere…all American menu…even Legal Seafoods may be too much for this time around. A place to get good Burgers, salads, appetizers, wings maybe?, sort of like a TGI Fridays or something like that but good food and easy to get to…

Thanks guys! ;)

PS: Thanks, Eireann…we could consider Blue Dragon…prices are reasonable…

Okay, throwing a few more ideas out there.

How do you feel about Australian meat pies?
[KO Catering and Pies](http://kocateringandpies.com/)
They have a location right by the airport.

Lucky’s Lounge is nearby and a solid choice in the sports bar genre - but with good salads.

I work in the area, so I think I’ve tried these places more for lunch than dinner, which makes a big difference pricewise.

Flour Bakery is also wonderful with soups and sandwiches but closes at 6, so if you’re eating on the earlier end…

I just looked up Blue Dragon…parking is only $5 for evenings. We can handle that! Dinner will probably be after 6pm. I will look at the other suggestions tomorrow…Thanks so much! :)

PS: I just looked up the other two quickly…Lucky’s Lounge looks like what I’m looking for! (They have Clam Chowder on the menu…a must when visiting Boston! ;)) I’ll try to get directions from the airport tomorrow. Thanks again!

How about Santarpio’s? Best pizza in Boston. Right outside the tunnel in East Boston.

http://www.santarpiospizza.com/

Thanks, viewer! I’ll definitely keep it as a suggestion and see what they’ll be in the mood for when they arrive.

eireann: I just did mapquest for Lucky’s Lounge and it’s only 3 miles from the airport, perfect.

viewer: I love gourmet, thin crust pizza. Is it like that? Yum!

It’s very authentic Italian pizza. It’s an institution in these parks consistently winning all the “Best of Boston” awards. Very authentic, very Boston. Probably wouldn’t be considered gourmet, but would be a fun, inexpensive experience.

Thanks, viewer. Good suggestion. I’ve been to Pepe’s in New Haven, and the website says this one is rated higher…I printed out the directions just in case. Only thing is, now that I thought about it, gotta have Clam Chowda! Too bad the Pizza place doesn’t offer soup too…so if we go to the other place, we can go for pizza another time…we live only an hour and a half away from Boston…we just don’t make it there as often as we’d like!

And, you’re right it’s clam chowda weather!

Enjoy!

Legal Seafood is also inside airport terminals B & C, near the boarding area. You can check in early then go to eat.

http://www.legalseafoods.com/restaurants/boston-logan-airport-terminal-b

http://www.legalseafoods.com/restaurants/boston-logan-airport-terminal-c

^^Thanks, coolweather. We are not going inside the airport. We are picking up young relatives who will most likely meet us outside after getting their bags. We want to go to a fun, casual place within a few miles of the airport, but not inside. Thanks anyway.

^ My bad. I thought you wanted to eat before going home like I did.

The Legal Seafood folks have a Legal Test Kitchen (LTK) in the Seaport area, which is minutes from the airport. There’s lots of parking nearby. It’s not free, but LTK will validate your ticket and you’ll get a discount on your parking. The food is great and the menu changes fairly often. Chowder is a staple. I think Legal chowder is quite good. You can see a menu if you click on the link below.

^^Thanks, Bromfield. Many years ago on a vacation to Vermont & Montreal, we had a really delicious dinner at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, VT. That was the first time I had heard about dinners in cooking schools/test kitchens.

Legal Seafoods certainly has many locations! Prices still may be too high for us this time, though.

I think eireann picked a good one…a pub type place that also serves Clam Chowder! I’m a little concerned about the noise level, though, since it seems very popular. On the other hand, we’re sure to have a good meal!

Any other suggestions for a pub type restaurant that serves good clam chowder in case I need a backup plan? Thanks, everyone!

Whenever I see or hear about Legal Seafood I have to shake my head. I’m dating myself, but I remember when it was one hole in the wall that served food on picnic tables.
