Looking for something casual but with great food in DC. Any type of cuisine. TIA!
This was a fun restaurant but only for meat eaters http://www.mediumrarerestaurant.com/ lol!
Where will you be?
For VERY casual, fun outside seating, great Indian food - Indigo in NOMA (corner of K and 3rd.)
We’ll be touring Catholic U but not sure where we’re headed afterwards. I guess somewhere in that vicinity or north (I have no idea where that would be lol)
@deb922 I will check out Medium Rare - thanks!
Right near Catholic is Busboys and Poets, Jose Andres (the chef who went to help in Puerto Rico post hurricane) has several restaurants: Jaleo, Oyamel, Zaytinya
Echoing Medium Rare and any of the Jose Andres places.
The Smith is really good, my only complaint is that it can be loud when it is packed.
If you want super casual, The Carving Room has great sandwiches and Hill Country Barbeque is great (my buddy from Austin likes it).
I liked Founding Farmers the one time I was there - https://www.wearefoundingfarmers.com/
If you feel like pizza I recommend Pi Pizzeria located at 910 F St NW. The deep dish pizzas are especially good.
Prejudiced but had a terrible experience at Founding Farmers. We had a person with food allergies and they were the worst experience by far of any restaurant I’ve been to. It was so bad, I even wrote a yelp review on it.
The food I had was good, the people with food allergies had very few choices and they were not accommodating. It is loud.
Make sure to see the basilica if it’s not on the tour. Gorgeous!
DC is very Uber or lyft friendly. I loved not driving. And Catholic is on the red line so easy to get around.
Wow, thanks! Wasn’t expecting so much info so quick. Everything sounds so good! Off to do some research.
Nandos - there are a few in DC - fun place - kids/teens love it
I mostly know Northern Virginia - 20 years ago. Lol. But if you end up in that area, any of the Great American Restaurants group (Mikes, Sweetwater Tavern, Carlyle, etc.) are good, but wait times can be long. (Great American Restaurants has a website with a link to each different chain)
I loved Barcelona for the tapas! I think it’s on 6th Street?
Where did you end up going?
None of the above, lol. My son chose this: http://www.brooklandsfinest.com/
A nice walk from Catholic, in a cute neighborhood, and the meal was actually quite yummy. We ended up with a variety of small plates, salads, and snacks because we couldn’t make up our minds.
